The extended selector joint is not only an upgrade but also moves the shifter a little more centered. In an E36, the extended selector joint is enough to recenter the shifter. In an e30, it will still have the slightest angle towards back of the car. If you want to push it more towards the center, a 10mm longer dssr then what originally came with your car will be needed (not included). Another option to center shifter is to mount it in reverse. This will give clearance since self-centering mechanism is now closer to the rear of the car.
