Overview

The Clutch Masters FX850 is an 8.5" (216mm) twin-disc system built for engines and transmissions with smaller bell housings. It's designed to hold serious horsepower and torque while keeping pedal pressure manageable on track. By increasing pressure-plate clamping force and adding usable disc area, the FX850 delivers an average 50% increase in clamping rate over comparable single-disc setups, depending on application.

Cover Assembly Construction

The cover assembly is machined from billet aluminum and Type 3 hard anodized, giving it roughly 25% more tensile strength than a cast competitor unit. Billet covers hold flex to about .003", versus up to .030" on a cast or stamped cover. Less flex means more consistent clutch engagement and greater clamping force for the same footprint — power gets to the ground instead of absorbed by a flexing cover.

QR System (Quick Release Pressure Plate)

Three spring-loaded bolts let the pressure plate engage and disengage evenly, cutting internal clutch noise and chatter by up to 50%. Built to give street drivers quiet, smooth operation without sacrificing the performance a multi-disc race clutch needs.

Flywheel Construction

Flywheels are built per application in aluminum or steel. Aluminum flywheels are machined from billet 6061-T6, Type 3 hard-coat anodized, and meet SFI spec 1.2 for NHRA, NDRA, IDRC, IHRA, SCCA, and NASA competition — each with a replaceable insert. Steel flywheels are machined from 1045 billet cores and black-oxide treated for rust prevention.

• Street and Race (TD8S) — 1 sprung ceramic disc + 1 fiber tuff rigid disc
• Race (TD8R) — 1 sprung ceramic disc + 1 ceramic rigid disc
