Symptoms of head gasket failure include: white residue (tapioca) in the valve cover, under the oil filler cap, and in drained oil, low coolant (not caused by failure in cooling system), low oil, oil leak onto exhaust manifold, and loss of power from loss of compression. Cooling system trouble on the S50 must be addressed quickly as the aluminum head is easily damaged if overheating occurs.

This part is manufactured by an aftermarket supplier of European auto parts, including many gaskets. While not carrying OEM status, this part follows the design of the original very closely and uses similar materials. An aftermarket part may even have the same TUV approval as its OEM counterpart. The brand may even be OEM to another manufacturer besides BMW. This aftermarket brand has a two year warranty - the same as Genuine BMW and OEM brands.
