BMW M5X / S5X Oil Pump Chain Tensioner Kit

The only true oil pump chain tensioner solution for BMW S52, M50, M52, M52TU, and M54 engines.

Oil pump failures are a well-known issue on BMW M5X and S5X engines, especially in high-RPM, track, and motorsport use. The common failure is usually blamed on engine harmonics, but the real problem often starts with excessive oil pump chain slack. At high RPM, the loose chain can whip back and forth, shocking the oil pump, sprocket, shaft, and nut. Over time, this can lead to spun oil pump nuts, damaged sprockets, chain wear, or even broken oil pump shafts.

BMW used oil pump chain tensioners in motorsport applications, but production engines were built without them. This kit adds the missing tensioner solution to help stabilize the oil pump chain and reduce the abuse placed on the oiling system.

While an upgraded oil pump shaft is a common solution, and one we also offer [HERE], the best approach is to address the root cause of the problem: uncontrolled chain movement. For a more complete oil pump reliability upgrade, this tensioner kit is the missing piece. If your chain is worn, we reccomend changing it while in there. The IWIS Master Link chains work well. 

The kit uses a proven polymer chain tensioner that rides against the oil pump chain to control slack and reduce chain whip at high RPM. The tensioner itself is an OEM-style component used in other vehicle applications and repurposed specifically for BMW M5X and S5X oil pump systems.

Installation requires drilling and tapping one mounting hole using the included template.
