This swap package is perfect for those running a G260 transmission in their 24V Swapped E30. The M5X/S5X engines sit a more of an angle when installed than the M20 engines. When mating the G260 transmission out of the E30 to an M5X/S5X engine, the transmission swap brace will be used to account for the new angle of the transmission mounting points. If you are using a transmission out of a 24V car, this swap brace will not be used.
With the transmission swap brace installed, the shifter will tilt towards the passenger at about 10 degrees. This is where the 10-degree twist DSSR comes into play. This special DSSR is designed to counter the angle of the transmission by twisting 10 degrees the opposite way. This specific DSSR is installed in conjunction with the transmission swap brace so your shifter will sit straight.
It's a really good idea to change your transmission fluid while you are down there.
Here we have both of the necessary components packaged together to make this swap as seamless and straightforward as possible. Aside from being necessary to align the shifter, the DSSR offers a great performance increase in shifting feel. The benefits of the DSSR are explained below:
DSSR stands for double shear selector rod, and its purpose is to spread the torsional force to both sides of the selector rod instead of the OEM piece which connects from one side only. Based on the concept of the E30 M3 DTM cars of legend! Going to a DSSR in your E30 will mean less play in the shifter, (decreases side to side motion). This means a more precise and smooth shift every time.
Now to the details. Our DSSR is made of stainless steel and then tig welded right here in our shop in Westminster CA, USA. Compatible with OEM style shiftier only (some shifters, like the Z3, will need to be slightly filed down to fit). 1984 - 1988 models must change to later BMW selector joint part #25117503525
