E36 Motor Mount Reinforcement Plates

The standard E36 chassis is known to have an issue with the motor mount pads being weak. They'll last a while for daily driving, but not very long for spirited driving or upgraded motor mounts. Throw in the age of the car, and you might already have a problem you don't know about. We make these motor mount reinforcement plates to fix the problem.

General fitment

  The new plates are designed to fit right onto the factory location. Differences in the stamped factory metal are to be expected over the thousands of cars made, couple that with the age of the car and some fitment may be required, like flattening of the stock deformed pads prior to welding.

Material and installation

   The plates are made from 1/8" (3.2mm) mild steel. The thicker than stock material adds significantly more strength and makes welding them in easier. After test fitting and cleaning the metal prior to welding, you can focus the welding heat on the new heavier metal and draw the weld over to the thinner stock metal, this technique will help to prevent blowing holes in other thinner plates or the car's original metal.

   Ideally the plates should be fitted to the bottom side of the pads with some trimming, but you can also weld them to the top side without removing the frame from the car. Welding to the top side will raise the engine 1/8" (3.2mm).
