If you have ever been in your car and put it in first gear or take off from a dead stop, you may have heard and felt a loud ‚thud‚ coming from the trunk area of the car. This is a sure sign that your differential mounting bushings are worn out or failed. If you speak in BMW part numbers, then that's 33171134872. These mounts will help eliminate the slop and play in the differential mounting. This equates to better power transfer to the ground and a more secure feeling in the rear of your car under hard use.
Price is for a pair (2 units). Enough to do 1 car.
We have this diff bushing available in 80a (soft poly), 95a (hard poly) and full-on Delrin. The stock E36 rear diff bushings are meant for comfort. It's meant to be quiet, so BMW allows for a little bit of movement for the sake of comfort. However, with its "floating" design it can fail under normal street use let alone any kind of performance driving. So we have the perfect solution. 80a soft poly is for that OEM + feel. That means you want a subtle upgrade for your street E46 without too much of a compromise in comfort, these are a happy medium. 80a are designed for the street enthusiast. 95a is great for dual purpose aggressive street and track applications. Delrin bushings are generally best for race applications only.
We drive our E36 and E46 M3 hard on the race track when we compete in events like Bimmer Challenge and occasional drift days. During hard direction changes, fast and sharp turns, and multiple clutch kicks, a lot of movement and abuse is transferred to the bushings that support the rear differential. After years of abuse, we noticed the polyurethane rear differential cover bushings take a significant amount of stress (the same reason why OEM bushings need to be replaced). To prevent these bushings from slipping out due to repeated force, we designed these cup-shaped washers to reinforce the polyurethane differential cover bushings and keep things nice and tight. These washers are for polyurethane bushings only. Not intended to be used for aluminum and delrin bushings.
